About Us

Mount Aaron Missionary Baptist Church

WE’VE COME THIS FAR BY FAITH

BY FAITH: In 1961, the late Frank Tompkins organized the first meeting of dedicated, like-minded Christians to form the Mount (Mt.) Aaron Missionary Baptist Church on the corner of Emslie and Howard Street. These dedicated Christians were Rev. J. Tompkins, Sister Beulah Tompkins, Rev. Joe Harrison (serving as church secretary and musician), Sister Bernice Watts, and Deacon Rosenthal. Accommodating the growing congregation, the church relocated to 524 Elm Street.
In 1966, the congregation’s faith was tested when the church and all its contents were destroyed by fire. To keep the congregation together, church services were relocated to Pastor Tompkins’ residence.

Mt. Aaron was blessed to locate and secure a church site at 538 Genesee Street. Pastor Tompkins faithfully served until 1991.
From 1992 through 2005, Mt Aaron’s leadership was transferred several times.
2006:  Rev. Dwayne Jones became senior pastor when Mt. Aaron grew spiritually and financially.

Under Pastor Jones’ leadership, God continued to bless Mt. Aaron, keeping them on the move. Positive changes and overcoming innumerable obstacles have resulted in Mt. Aaron becoming one of the fastest-growing churches in Buffalo and possibly New York State.

2007:  Ms. Cally Jones became the first Mt. Aaron Sunday School Superintendent.

2008:  Mt. Aaron successfully cleared up $30,000.00 worth of left-over debt.

2009:  To accommodate the growing congregation, the church expanded its footprint by purchasing four additional parcels of land to accommodate its various needs.

2010:  Mt. Aaron joined the Empire State Congress.

2011:  Mt Aaron joined the National Baptist Convention of the USA.

2012:  After raising the necessary funds, Mt. Aaron, outfitted with modern kitchen accessories, could easily accommodate social functions for the church, community, and those less fortunate.
2013: To continue being progressive, interior and exterior cameras were installed to screen activities on, around, and inside church property.

2014:  A baptism pool was constructed and installed.

2015:  Pastor Jones successfully authored and coordinated a $2.5M grant to construct the 10-unit housing structure known as the “Mt. Aaron Manor.”

2016:  To accommodate the rapidly growing congregation, Pastor Jones was directly responsible for the construction project on the new sanctuary, which now seats 250 people.

2017:  A new 9-passenger van was purchased.

2018: An outdated Community Room was remodeled to enhance community learning, and seven computer stations for after-school learning were installed.

2019:  Restrooms were remodeled to meet the requirements of the Americans with Disability Act.

2020: The “Vincent Torrence” scholarship was established to assist Mt. Aaron youths in pursuing higher education by attending college and vocational training establishments.

2021: To sustain the congregation’s rapid growth, Mt Aaron purchased two parcels of land on Mulberry Street to expand the sanctuary.

2022:  Through answered prayers, God blessed Mt. Aaron with $26M to construct a 75-apartment building complex and 17 townhouses now known as “Mt. Aaron Village.”

2023:  Mt. Aaron initiated a fundraising project to purchase two additional plots of land to accommodate the congregation’s continued growth.

In conclusion, Pastor Jones and the Mount Aaron congregation continually demonstrate concern for each member and the surrounding community.  Brought to fruition, God’s abundant blessings constantly result in growth and opportunities for the future.

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. (KJV, 2 Chronicles 7:14)

Mission Statement

Under Pastor Jones’ leadership, our mission is to serve the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, giving God glory in all we do and offering Christ to a dying world.

Vision Statement

As God orders his steps and under God’s anointing, Pastor Jones imparts words of inspiration and exhortation in the hearts and souls of God’s people.  God has blessed and expanded his ministry exponentially through the congregation’s growth.

Part of Pastor Jones’ master plan is to help develop Buffalo’s east side, and as a man of faith, he believes that God will make a way.

Pastor Dwayne Jones acknowledges that if you believe and trust in God, He will honor the prayers of the righteous and add to the church daily as God promised in the book of Acts 4:4, “But many who heard the message believed (adhered to and trusted in and relied on Jesus as the Christ), and their number grew to about five thousand. (Amplified Bible)

The Mt. Aaron congregation is a body of believers. We believe in the Trinity: the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Our vision is to offer light to a world of darkness. Our guide is the Bible.

Our Purpose

To worship the Lord God Almighty in spirit and truth and serve Him wholeheartedly.

To spread the Gospel through the clear teaching of the bible.

To make disciples (followers) of Jesus Christ.

To equip the saints (Christians) to do the work of the ministry.

Being instruments of the Holy Spirit shows that God is still as powerful and relevant today as in the bible days.
